My Cherry Tomato Jam and Avocado Grilled Cheese is made with my homemade jam, gluten-free bread, and avocado. It’s a delightful take on the classic grilled sandwich.

Today, I’m putting that Easy Cherry Tomato Jam, which I shared with you on Monday, to good use! Grilled cheese was one of my favorite foods as a kid. It was the only thing I would ever order when we would go out to eat. I guess I was a pretty picky kid, but there are a lot worse things you can eat than grilled cheese! Although I did always pair it with French fries and chocolate milk š
These days, I still love my grilled cheese, but I like to add more adult toppings to it. Mid-May might not quite be summer everywhere in the world, but it sure feels like summer here in Arizona! The AC is on, and I’m limiting my outdoor time while eating lots of frozen treats!
Cherry Tomato Jam and Avocado Grilled Cheese Recipe Ingredients
- Cherry Tomato Jam – I put my Easy Cherry Tomato Jam to good use in this recipe. While I love most seasonal produce equally, cherry tomatoes have a special place in my heart. They give everything a sweet and juicy bite, really helping to add flavor to this grilled cheese.
- Udi’s Gluten Free Bread – You can, of course, use your favorite sliced bread instead.
- Butter – If you’re making this recipe vegan, you can use a butter alternative or an oil of your choice.
- Cheese slices – Mozzarella melts nicely, as does cheddar, Jack, and provolone. Vegan cheese can be substituted if needed.
- Avocado – I added some avocado to these because, well, you can never go wrong with adding avocado! You will need 1-2, depending on the number of sandwiches you’re making.

Recipe Tips and Thoughts
- This recipe is gluten-free and can be made vegan with a dairy-free cheese alternative.
- You can find the recipe for my Easy Cherry Tomato Jam here!
- I like to think of this grilled cheese as a grown-up version of the classic, great to eat all year round, but especially delicious on a hot summer day.
- Udi’s Gluten Free Sandwich Bread is the perfect way to serve these grilled cheese sandwiches because it toasts up so nicely and is great for holding all the fantastic ingredients!
- Because of the avocado, these sandwiches are best served immediately.

Cherry Tomato Jam & Avocado Grilled Cheese
- Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- Cherry Tomato Jam (link to recipe above)
- Udi’s Gluten Free Bread
- 1-2 tablespoons butter
- Cheese slices
- Sliced avocado, 1-2 depending on how many sandwiches you are making
Instructions
- Heat a large pan over medium heat. Butter one side of each piece of bread. On the non-buttered side, spread with cherry tomato jam and then top with cheese and avocado slices. Place the other piece of bread on top, with the buttered side facing up, and place in the pan. Cook grilled cheese until each side of the bread is browned and cheese is melted, 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Repeat process for each grilled cheese.

Ingredient amounts really depend on how many sandwiches you are making, but for each sandwich I would recommend: 2 slices of bread, 1-2 tablespoons cherry tomato jam, 2 slices of cheese, and 3-4 thin slices of avocado.

- Cook Time: 5 mins

Love that tomato jam, what a great idea for sandwiches! We’ve been putting avocados on everything lately š I think this grilled cheese looks perfect for an easy summer meal.
Thanks, Sherri! Doesn’t avocado go so well with everything?!
Wow! You’ve layered this sandwich oh-so-perfectly. Beautiful!

Thank you, Lisa!
Oh now this is my kind of sandwich! Cherry tomato jam with avocados and cheese? Yes, please! I think this just might be the most amazing lunch. Such a great idea, especially for the summer!
Thanks, Gayle! It is so my kind of lunch too š
Wow, love the flavors in this Izzy. I’m always adding sun-dried tomatoes to dishes because I love that sweet- tart balance they give. So I can just taste them here with the cheese and avocado. Not quite so hot here ;-), but nevertheless this seems like a satisfying meal that barely even requires cooking.
Thanks, Katie! I don’t eat nearly enough sun-dried tomatoes but I love them so much!
